the creative calendar...

at long last, Sarah's sewcial lounge is just about ready to start humming with the sound of machines, friendship and laughter.  the creative calendar booklets arrived from the printer today...

screech...halt...stop the presses. the inside is...up.side.down.  not to worry...they are reprinting and making a quick delivery on friday morning...in the meantime if you are not doing anything this friday night, june 22 from 5-8 or saturday june 23 between 10-5, stop in and have a look for yourself.  it is time for Sarah to finally show off her lounge.

planning time...

...in the sewcial lounge. why yes, these are calendar pages you see...

shocking?  i do believe.  but with patience and perseverance, all things are possible.  we are putting the final touches on the next few months.  if you are interested in teaching a class, leading a block-of-the month club, or have any suggestions for what you want to see included in our curriculum, now is the time to let your voice be heard.

calling all teachers...

have you clicked on the latest announcement...

i know... unbelieveable, in more ways than one.  it's been a long time coming so we are more excited than ever to show off our new space.  please note: the classroom is on the second floor, therefore stairs are involved.

a sneaky peak upstairs...

there was a vision...we just did not know it at the time. i suppose that is what faith is all about. a few years ago, the space on the second floor behind our medical billing company became available. we did not really need the space...but just like fabric...need was low on the list for getting to "yes."

the former tenant owned a hair salon.  before she moved in, a renovation was completed that included installing extra water lines for the shampoo bowls. those water lines did provide us the opportunity to create a kitchenette, complete with the cutest little dishwasher, for all of us to use...

as you can see, i've already found a great place to set up an ironing board too:)

it also provided a place to move sarah's futon and television for the days when she was sick and unable to go to school, which was often back then...

over the years, i moved in with a desk, a computer and printer. and we've slowly been moving sewing machines and fabric projects up there too.  and with that combination it became apparent and fitting that this become the new home of Sarah's Sewcial Lounge. a true lounge of sorts, with machines and cutting tables, large creative boards and design walls.

it is going to take a few weeks.  we had to ask one of our billing employees to move into the front room, which she graciously did last week...

next i need to empty out the file drawers. this should be an easy task. however, the contents are as priceless as can be...twenty plus years worth of girl scout memories.  and a resume or two from my twenty plus year career in the non-profit world.  stay tuned for our progress. it's sure to be exciting...

meet erika and livia...

it was a great afternoon in the house of fabric. we had two young helpers willing to give their saturday afternoon to make pillowcases in memory of kristen.

erika came directly from her basketball game. she has never been on a sewing machine before, so this was a new experience for her.

i loved seeing the girls interact as they worked. this is what sarah's sewcial lounge is all about.

livia learned that an iron can be as important as a sewing machine.
erika caught on quickly. notice her excellent hand placement as she is quiding the fabric along.

livia readies the facing by pinning it under for the final stitching. she likes how this will create a clean smooth finish to the pillowcase.

two beautiful cases completed with kate spain's verna. the machines are set up and ready for your use. if you can't make it on thursday feel free to drop in anytime this week. thank you marci and joellen for bringing your beautiful girls in today. see you again soon.
