the fifty dollar guess...

i am simply giddy when things turn out even better than one can anticipate. remember the bolt guessing game? we had a winner. spot on. the final count was exactly 104 bolts...

and the reply from slfranks4 read 104.   i was unable to link to her email from the blog response. so i posted it here and on facebook.  several days went by and i heard nothing. just as i was about to send out a last minute sos, i recieved an email from shannon, thrilled to be the winner.

you want to know how she guessed the correct number?  she didn't. her seven year old daughter did. turns out it is her school id number.  ahhhh...how sweet is that!!! rumor has it though...there may be an ongong discussion as to who gets to pick the fabric on their next visit:)  we can't wait to see you shannon and ella!!

it pays to follow jellen's blog...stay tuned for our next give-a-way very soon.

sunday sweetness...

down right perfect is one of the newest books in our store.  it's not exactly about quilting. rather it is about a topic that is near and dear to our hearts...

it's about the beauty and intrigue of having a child with down syndrome. we sell fabric. yet we sell so much more here. it's an experience. for us and hopefully for our customers.  it is also our mission to hire and educate others about down syndrome.  this adorable book makes that task just a little easier. to learn more about this book and read sarah's review click here.

a stitch in color...

it's no secret...we love color.  and so does malka dubrawsky. which makes us so excited to present our newest collection...a stitch in color...

if you're not familiar with malka, head on over to her blog. there you will find lots of inspiration. if you'd like to touch a sample of her work, we were so lucky to snag one of her original creations.  do see the pillow standing up? it was actually made by malka in her hand dyed fabrics. i think moda did an excellent job of recreating her vision.  if you're interested in precuts come quickly, they are almost gone.

happy new year...

our moto of the year...

brought to us by our friends at moda/united notions.

sunday sweetness...

our sunday sweetness this week is so very special to us.  we are going to introduce you to all of the sweet angels we have been able to sponsor this holiday season through reece's rainbow because of the generosity of you, our wonderful customers with your gift card donations.

serena born august 2011

kylen born august 2011

maribel has found her family

mara born january 11

emilie has found her family

all of these precious girls were born with down syndrome and are currently living in orphanages.  they are available for adoption unless they have been fortunate enough to have found their family during this holiday angel tree mission. the cost of adoption is quite high which is why we have committed to financially help as many families as possible.  thank you for helping us do that.

two is better than one...

have you driven by the shop lately?  if not, we have a little surprise...

our sweet southern belle has brought in a second dress for us to display. for this one she chose the deep red poinsettia print from basicgreys' jovial collection. then around the bottom she took a panel from kate spain's twelve days of christmas and created a border. very clever this bonnie gal is. then around the middle she has used a square print from ready, set, snow by me and my sister. i just love them both.

this red dress is also available on bonnie's etsy site.  remember though, it is an ooak (one of a kind) so when it is sold there are no more.

sunday sweetness...

this weeks sweetness comes courtesy of a sweet southern belle.  bonnie recently moved from georgia to be closer to her grandkids. she found our shop the very week we opened and we are so delighted she did, for she brings us adorable treasures such as this...

to display in our front window.  she has taken bits of twelve days of christmas and flurry by kate spain along with ready, set, snow by me and my sister all for moda to create this ooak (one of a kind) fashion.  it is available for sale on bonnie's etsy shop, bonbonoriginals.

oh and speaking of snow...let's give bonnie a round of applause for braving our first official snowfall of the year this weekend. i guess rain, sleet, snow or hail will not keep a good stitcher away from the fabric shop:)

domestic bliss

alright, i'll admit it.  domestic. bliss.  never would i have thought of putting those two words together.  yet now that i see this...

...it's perfect in every way.  domestic bliss arrived as somewhat of a surprise. as shop owners, sarah and i usually get to see future collections already printed on fabric.  with this one, it was only on paper. like a color copy from the office supply store.  sometimes i refuse to order that way. yet i wanted to have designer liz scott represented in our store, so we went ahead with it.  and i'm so happy we did. we love it!!! as with all precuts, when they're gone, they're gone. so don't wait long.

sunday sweetness...

today's sweetness is inspired by two bunnies who hopped a very long way to arrive in our house...

to read more about their journey hop on over to sarah's blog.  this is our current fig tree corner. i was first drawn to joanna figueroa when her collection mill house inn was introduced. it presented as such a calming group of fabric. shortly after we committed to opening our shop, i knew we would one day have a gathering of fig tree.  and a sweet sight it is.

i've had the pleasure of dealing with so many creative souls to put this display together...
bunnies by leigh-ann & bev of wishful thinking
strawberry fields quilt on door frame by carly of carlene westberg designs
strawberry fields table runner by nancy of cache creek quilts
mill house in quilt on wall by crystal of frivolous necessity
apron by dianne of dianne designer aprons
whimsy snuggle quilt on floor pole by janeen of jlquilts
applique table runner on wall by christa & cassaundra of cotton berry quilts

lovey labels

every single time i cut cape ann, i smile. have you noticed the adorable labels on the selvage...

too cute for...well i guess they are words...simply cute. how's that?  we have the dots in green too.  cape ann was designed by liesl gibson of oliver + s for moda. if you're in the cincinnati area, her trunk show has just arrived at sewn studio. go check it out through 12/9. btw...my peeps tell me sewn is worth the trip. maybe we will see you there one day.
